Murder, ghosts, and scandal await on The Dark Side of Seoul Ghost Walk, the city’s original and most chilling walking tour. Far from the usual tourist routes, this experience peels back the glossy surface of modern Seoul to reveal a city haunted by centuries of bloodshed, betrayal, and sorrow. Led by folklorist Joe, an expert in Korean mythology and dark history, the tour takes guests through winding alleys and forgotten corners where ghost stories, true crime, and folklore come alive. With over 600 years of tales to uncover, this walk is perfect for history buffs, culture lovers, and anyone intrigued by the shadows that linger in one of Asia’s most vibrant cities.
As you explore, you’ll visit the site of a royal massacre, stand outside the former home of a notorious ruler, and walk through the infamous red-light district of Jongno 3-ga. You’ll pass by Tapgol Park, a place buzzing with unusual energy, and uncover the hidden history of the 1987 democracy movement. Strolling along the Cheonggyecheon Stream, listen for whispers of water-bound spirits and learn about a bridge soaked in revenge. Many guests report unusual sensations, and clairvoyants have claimed to see ghostly apparitions along the route—so keep your eyes and mind open. This isn’t just a tour; it’s an immersive journey into Seoul’s spectral and scandalous past.
For those seeking an even deeper dive into the macabre, the Extended Edition offers more bone-chilling stories, including the grisly assassination of Queen Min, Seoul’s most haunted intersection, and the lingering spirits of Gyeonghuigung Palace. These tales go beyond ghost stories—they expose the raw, emotional history buried beneath the streets of the capital. From haunted houses to hidden curses, this tour combines storytelling, folklore, and real history to offer a cultural adventure unlike any other. Whether you’re a skeptic or a true believer, The Dark Side of Seoul Ghost Walk will leave you looking at the city in a whole new light.

This evening walking tour was very informative and a lot of fun despite the dark and spooky theme… you actually do learn a lot of Seoul and Korean history while strolling down the lively streets. It’s also a great way to discover the different neighborhoods of Seoul and what they have to offer.

This was THE BEST tour hands down! Joe was amazing and not only knowledgeable but told the stories in a personable way like he was sharing it with friends. You could tell he was passionate about the history of Seoul. It was so much fun. I highly recommend, you won’t regret it!

What an informative, yet informal tour, Joe not only knows his history but also delivers the information very well. He took us to places we wouldn't have gone, and showed us a side of Seoul that, despite being factual, might not be portrayed the same way by a different guide. By far the highlight of our time in Seoul, and a real pleasure to meet with Joe. Highly recommend this tour: you'll learn more about Korean history in 2 hours walking with Joe than on a more formal full day bus tour. An absolutely brilliant evening!! Worthy of more stars!

I went on a Dark Side of Seoul ghost tour 5 years ago and went again on my most recent trip and brought my Mom. This was a fun and interesting tour filled with some familiar and new tales. Shawn is a great tour guide. He was my tour guide both times I visited. On the tour you get to see many parts of Seoul at night and some historic buildings as well. This tour has a lot of walking. We probably covered 2-3 miles or more. I highly recommend this tour as a fun activity while on vacation in Seoul.👻

The Dark Side of Seoul Tour was amazing. There are two versions (weekday and weekend) with different guides and in different areas of the city. Both of them are definitely worth it. Shawn and Joe are great guides and tell the stories in a way that draws listeners in. The tours do not compete with each other, instead one tour is almost like a continuation of the other and vice versa. In my opinion both of them are worth checking out. And if you easily get scared, don't worry! Just grab a change of underwear with you and go!
