Canoeing at Derwentwater is a delightful way to explore the lake while staying mostly dry. Perfect for families, friends, or even pets, our canoes provide ample space for picnics, snacks, and relaxing time on the water. Paddle along the calm waters, enjoy the abundance of wildlife, and keep an eye out for playful alpacas drinking at the water’s edge. For a bit of magic, stop at one of the islands to enjoy a picnic or see if you can spot the legendary faeries or rumored pirates. Our instructors are happy to teach beginners the basics of paddling and balance, so no prior experience is needed. Canoeing allows you to explore the lake at your own pace while taking in the beautiful scenery, making it suitable for all ages and abilities.
While you are likely to stay mostly dry, it’s wise to bring a towel, a change of clothing, and suitable footwear that can get wet. Buoyancy aids are provided free of charge and must be worn at all times for safety. On sunny days, bring sunglasses and sun lotion to protect against the glare off the water, while on colder days, a warm jacket will keep you comfortable. Electronics should be kept safe from water, so either bring a dry bag or leave valuables behind. Changing facilities are available if needed. Canoeing at Derwentwater is a relaxing yet fun activity that combines adventure, nature, and family-friendly exploration, giving you memories and experiences to cherish on the lake.
