Extended Guided Tour

Go beyond a standard tour and step into the living history of the East Broad Top Railroad with this immersive three-hour guided experience. Led by an expert guide, you will explore the remarkably intact historic shop complex and uncover the story of the EBT during its common-carrier era. Nearly every accessible building is included, offering a rare, behind-the-scenes look at how one of America’s most significant narrow-gauge railroads once operated on a daily basis.

As you walk through the shop complex, you will follow in the footsteps of the craftsmen who kept the railroad running, from blacksmiths and machinists to car repairmen and storehouse clerks. Learn about traditional industrial practices such as casting, machining, and blacksmithing, all within the original spaces where this work took place more than a century ago. The experience is brought to life with a demonstration of the belt-driven machine shop, featuring the stationary steam engine and line shafts operating on compressed air, creating a powerful connection to America’s industrial past at this National Historic Landmark.
