We wanted an adventure on our last day in Porto and chose the Paiva Walkways & 516 Arouca Bridge from Just Come (through Viator). We met in Porto and drove towards Arouca. We walked 25 minutes to the Suspension Bridge. It was a little intimidating but once we started walking, the sights from high up were exhilarating. We then started walking towards the 8k Paiva walkways. It was mostly down stairs or flat walking with 2 short but a little steep hills (just 25-30 meters). We were rewarded with a nice lunch afterwards. Then drove to a small town for some Portuguese sweets. It was a long day but so glad we opted for this day tour. Participants have the ability to stop walking and get driven to the lunch spot if that is a concern (1 participant stopped at the 4k marker but we met up with him at lunch). Ines, our tour guide, did a great job explaining the history, the nature elements and terrain of the land. Sergio, our driver, was wonderful driving us there, to our desserts, and back to Porto. We highly recommend this tour with Just Come!
The excursion was great! Ines was fantastic, she gave us lots of explanations, the advantage of being in a small group! We were lucky enough to have sun all day, which made the walk very pleasant. The pastry tasting on the way back was great.
Had a great day & hike with Inês over the Arouca 516 suspension footbridge and along the Paiva River on the Passadiços Do Paiva wooden walkway. Inês kept a good pace for everyone, with rest stops , and he entertained us with lots of information about what we were doing and the trees we were seeing. Just Come thoughtfully provided day packs with plenty of water, juice, and snacks. It was 6.5 miles in total, mostly downhill, but requiring moderate fitness. Oh, and Inês took photos along the way had had them uploaded for the group within a couple of hours!
We had a fantastic day with João! The weather was beautiful. It was perfect weather conditions for crossing Ponte 516 and a walk along the river through the gorge on the Paiva Walkway. João pointed out very interesting flora and fauna that kept my teenagers intrigued despite the long walk. They are still talking about nightshade, wolves and cork/euculyptus trees. Thanks for a wonderful day that we will never forget!
Excellent tour we booked from Getyourguide.com. We chose the tour with lunch included. The meeting point is very clear because we use Whatsapp to communicate with the company in advance. The driver was very enthusiastic even though he speaks Portuguese, but he tried to communicate with us in English. He drove a little bit fast, and kept asking if everyone was uncomfortable or carsick because the mountain road to the bridge is curvy. If he would have slowed down a bit, it will be a perfect trip. The tour guide, who is a biologist, is very knowledgable and friendly about the geological park and nature. It is a wonderful experience to walk on the bridge and the walkways, and the company prepared the snack, water and fruit in a backpack that you can use it during the tour. The meal at Arouca downtown restaurant was unbelievably superb. The restaurant owner is so passionate, and his hospitality made us so impressed and satisfied with the Portuguese food and desserts. We did not taste any food like it in Lisbon or Porto downtown. I would say it is the most delicious food we have ever eaten in Portugal so far. Overall, we enjoyed very much. Highly recommend for people who like nature and hiking, and are not afraid of the height!
