Iconic landmark and a powerful symbol of the Serenissima Republic of Venice’s political and artistic legacy. The site’s origins go back to at least the 9th century, but most of the palace seen today was built between the 14th and 15th centuries in a richly ornamented Venetian Gothic style. St. Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco) itself enhances the experience: as Venice’s principal public space. plenty of activity day and night. Restuarants, coffee shops and retailers on and off the square.

Another must see for tourists it is a crucial part of Venetian history. We completed the secret tour of Doge’s Palace, will you get to go to areas and that you don’t go in a normal tour. Amazing architecture and you get to see how the prisoners lived in history. You get to explore at your own pace would probably need two hours. Recommended to buy tickets in advance as it does get busy. Also worth coming early in the morning when it’s quiet.

Doge’s Palace is an incredible place to visit. When we went, it wasn’t crowded, which made it easy to explore all the exhibits. The contrast is striking—an unbelievable blend of luxury and what feels like a three-storey prison. Time flew by without us even noticing. Our 9-year-old was fully engaged and explored everything with great interest, right until the very end.

An incredible historic experience. The Doge’s Palace brings Venice’s past to life through breathtaking art, massive ceremonial rooms, and a fascinating armory. You really feel the power and influence Venice once had across Europe and the Mediterranean. The contrast between the grand halls and the prison across the Bridge of Sighs makes the visit unforgettable. A must-see in Venice.

Doge’s Palace is an essential stop in Venice — a living testament to the grandeur and governance of the Venetian Republic. The sheer scale of the Great Council Hall was staggering, and its gilded ceiling, ablaze with symbolic figures, evoked the Republic’s wealth and ambition in that era. I was particularly impressed by two monumental works: 1) Paolo Veronese’s Apotheosis of Venice, and 2) Tintoretto’s colossal Il Paradiso. Beyond the historic masterpieces, I was honoured to witness Anselm Kiefer’s exhibition during my visit. His powerful installation, set within the Sala dello Scrutinio, juxtaposed contemporary reflection against ancient grandeur. His works explored themes of memory, decay, and rebirth, confronting Venice’s layered history with resonance. The result was beyond spectacular — an unforgettable dialogue between past and present, tradition and innovation. A truly profound experience at one of Venice’s most extraordinary spaces, where art and history converged seamlessly!
