We just got back from visiting the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi (it's actually called the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust now), and wow, what an incredible experience! Watching those little baby elephants come charging in for their milk bottles and then splashing around in the mud bath was just pure joy – they're such playful, gentle giants even when they're tiny orphans. The keepers shared so many heartbreaking but hopeful stories about how these babies were rescued, and you really learn a ton about elephant conservation and why it's so important. It was emotional, educational, and totally heartwarming all at once. We're already planning to adopt one through their program it feels like the perfect way to keep supporting the amazing work they do. Hands down one of the best things we did in Kenya, and I can't recommend it enough to anyone heading that way. If you're in Nairobi, don't miss it!
The low reviews are from people who obviously did not visit the Sheldrick website. I did and followed all their directions and did not have a single problem. Their website spells out very clearly exaclty what to do so you have a good experience. After being a donor for years, I was able to visit yesterday. It was amazing! One of the best and most memorable experiences of my life. I loved hearing all the stories of each baby. I took sooooo many photos and videos, and was able to touch one of the babies that came near. Watching them interact and play in the mud and dust and water was adorable. Thank you for opening this time up to the public. I loved being able to spend time with some of the elephants I help!
Visiting the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust was an amazing experience! Getting to see the baby elephants up close and learn about their rescue stories was truly unforgettable. It’s incredible how much care and love the team puts into protecting and rehabilitating these animals. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Nairobi — it’s educational, heartwarming, and an absolute must-see right after Nairobi National Park.
