Our day begins at the Monastery of Alcobaca, a magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site that stands as one of the finest examples of Gothic and Manueline architecture in Portugal. As you walk through its grand halls and serene cloisters, you’ll discover the powerful stories woven into its walls — most notably, the moving tale of King Pedro I and Ines de Castro, whose tragic romance left a lasting mark on Portuguese history.
From there, we’ll continue to Nazare, a traditional fishing village perched on the Atlantic coast. Known for its rich maritime culture, colorful boats, and the iconic seven-skirted fishwives, Nazare blends history with everyday life. I did a day tour of Alcobaça, Batalha, and Tomar with Quim with my friends/family, and I have to say it was one of the most informative and efficient tours I’ve ever been on. I usually get bored quickly on tours, but Quim kept everything engaging, fun, and easy to follow while sharing so much about the history and culture. Highly recommend Alma Tours 💯
We spent 5 days in Nazare in the beginning of May. We had two separate days of tours with Joaquim. The first, a car tour of Nazare where Joaquim led us on a history and traditions of Nazare and the surrounding area as well as meeting some of the folks of which he seemingly knew all. Two days later we did a full day tour of the monasteries in Alcobaca, Batalha & Tomar. Absolutely stunning!!! - not to be missed. Joaquim's in depth knowledge and passion for the area, the people and the ways of life both past and present, made both days with him absolutely wonderful. The half-day trip to Fatima with Joaquim was a magnificent experience. He introduced us to the origins of the country, and also explained the soul and philosophy of the Portuguese people, everything was done in a deep and spiritual way.
