This three day AIARE Level 2 avalanche course is designed for experienced backcountry travelers who want to advance their decision making leadership and snow stability analysis skills. Building on the foundation from AIARE Level 1 the course focuses on identifying critical hazard factors interpreting weather and snowpack data and refining terrain management strategies. The hut based format creates an immersive learning environment where students combine classroom discussion with real world field observations and overnight backcountry travel in Central Colorado.
Led by AIARE certified instructors with strong local knowledge the course emphasizes leadership in small teams effective communication and practical forecasting frameworks. Students analyze avalanche terrain weather trends and snowpack structure then apply these observations directly to safer travel decisions.
