Join us for a boat trip into the stunning Ísafjarðardjúp fjord in search of whales and other wildlife. Departing from Isafjordur on our fully fitted boat Síf, we journey into the surrounding fjord where the waters are alive with marine activity. Guests have the chance to spot distant whale blows, and our expert captain will bring you as close as possible without disturbing the animals. The fjord is home to a variety of marine life including humpback whales, minke whales, dolphins, and porpoises. Humpback whales are particularly exciting as they sometimes display their tails on a dive, providing a truly remarkable sight. The waters around Vigur and Æðey islands are also frequented by many puffins, adding to the incredible wildlife experience. On rare occasions, orcas may pass through the area, creating a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness these majestic predators. Our experienced boat crew and knowledgeable guide share insights about the local wildlife and the natural environment, enhancing the adventure with fascinating stories and observations.
This trip also contributes to ongoing research on the whale population in the area. Guests are encouraged to take photos of whale flukes for identification purposes, helping to monitor and protect these magnificent creatures. While sightings are frequent due to the richness of the fjord, it is important to remember that we are observing wild animals, and sightings cannot be guaranteed on every tour. The journey provides a unique opportunity to connect with nature, enjoy the dramatic landscapes of Ísafjarðardjúp, and witness the beauty and diversity of Arctic marine life. Whether you are a passionate wildlife enthusiast or simply looking for an unforgettable experience in Iceland, this boat tour offers an exciting and educational adventure in one of the most spectacular fjords in the Westfjords.

We went on the Vigur island tour, or as we named it “puffin island tour”. We were lucky to be with a small group, had a nice boat ride and were warmly welcomed on the island by the local guide. There are around 100-200k puffins on this island, and surely we missed most :), but we did see so many puffins! Sitting, flying, going into their nests… and we were able to get so close - amazing! There were also many eider ducks to see, just lying in the gras and walking around. What a peaceful and beautiful place.

We booked the whale tour three months in advance, only to be cancelled just one hour before departure without any explanation. We decided to drive there anyway, and were told it was due to ‘overbooking’ because of cruise ships. After making some calls, we were finally allowed to join at 6:30 PM. However, two hours before that time, we received another call saying the trip was cancelled again due to ‘bad weather’. The last boat came back with only wet en scared people told somebody of west tours. Strangely enough, the sky was perfectly clear and the sea was so calm there wasn’t a single wave in sight. All weather reports also showed only a light breeze. After that, no one could be reached at the bureau en nobody was answering the phone. The story only got better when we saw a dry boat and only dry ‘jackets’ in the container.

Great, Great Tour. We did the three hour Dynjandi waterfall tour and the little town with Iceland's oldest book store! Our guide Sorguson was wonderful. I don't think I've spelt her name right but she was amazing. Look at advance so you don't have to wait in line with all the cruiseship passengers.

We took a 2 hour bus tour with Arnar, a retired police officer (our bus driver and guide) from Eagle Tours. He was very knowledgeable and personable. He took us to a mountain lookout (former NATO radar station), a fishing village and a small waterfall (the other tours had sold out). He made many interesting stops along the way. We had a great time!

Great tour. Small bus which was nice. Driver/guide was knowledgeable, fun, and easy to understand. Water falls were very impressive, but just the drive through this incredible country will take your breath away. 6 stars out of 5
