We understand that not everyone is made for camping in the wilderness, so we offer a more comfortable alternative that combines the best sea kayaking Iceland has to offer with cozy accommodation. Traveling light without the need to carry camping and cooking gear makes the trip simpler and allows more energy and time to enjoy the stunning scenery and wildlife of the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve. Our first night is spent in Hesteyri, a small abandoned village, where the old doctor's residence serves as our home. The following two nights are at the old farmhouse in Kviar, which had stood empty for over sixty years until it was rebuilt. These houses provide everything needed for a comfortable stay off the grid, including a sauna in the evenings to relax tired muscles. If we are lucky, the nearby Arctic Fox may even make an appearance to greet us.
The sea kayaking portion of the trip offers incredible opportunities to see wildlife in its natural habitat. Sea birds, marine mammals, and Arctic Foxes are abundant, and paddling in sea kayaks allows us to blend into the environment for close and unforgettable encounters. This trip is considered medium difficulty, falling between the easier Wild Camp Discovery and the more challenging Coastal Kayaking Adventure. It is best suited for those with some kayaking experience, as the longer distances require good strength, endurance, and technique. With practice, participants can enjoy a rewarding adventure that combines exploration, wildlife observation, and the unique experience of traveling through one of Iceland's most beautiful and remote regions.
