The buses (Big Bus company), are well suited for the ride, but the stairs to the second floor are steep and not for the ill or the feeble. It's not easy to take good pictures unless you are a ver good photographer, or unless you get down in the places you like, which, by the way, are very convenient and well placed. We got down at Notre Dame, and then again at Trocadero, where the best pictures of the Eiffel tower are taken (maybe les Champs de Mars are good enough too), and you have the Museum of Man (wonderful experience of you like history and culture), and the Aquarium (is you like sea life). We hired a 48 hour ride, including a boat by the Seine river, but in one day it was enough for our purposes, because we were going other day to The Louvre and another to Orsay museum. The ride is guided in several languages (English, Spanish, Italian, Russian, French, Chinese, and others), so certainly you won't be lost. For our intentions a 24 hour ride would have been enough, and we missed the boat, but it was not in our plans, so not a big loss.
A really good idea to see the main attractions with the kids. Paris is huge so walking around with kids would be a hustle. The tour is not that long and it end fast especially if you don't hop off much. We only went off at the Eiffel tower. The buses run often, like every 10 minutes so it is time efficient too.
If you’re an early bird and can catch the tour early in the morning, it’s very worthwhile to enjoy the hop on hop off benefits. Things to know: Timing - When they offer 12, 24, or 48 hour passes, please understand that it’s ONLY for the type of ticket purchased. You don’t technically have 24 hours, as daytime tours have specific hours. Tour Types: There are two types of tickets: Daytime and Night time tours. Daytime tour hours are from 9:45AM - 5:30PM. (See attached fine print) Night time tour hours begin at 6:00PM. Be very careful you get on and off during day time hours as if you try to get on a night time tour bus, it will cost you more $. Night Cruise - they run from 10:30AM - 9:00PM. Also, be very careful if you take any evening boat cruise after 5:30pm, as when you return, remember you have Daytime tour passes, and will have to find other means of transportation to get back to your starting point.
