Killarney town and its surrounding areas offer a wide range of cycling routes, perfect for enthusiasts of all levels. You can explore the town, visit Ross Castle, or cycle around the scenic lakes, with options to venture into Killarney National Park. Muckross, located at the heart of the park, is ideal for a full day's cycling. Starting from Killarney town, cycle along Muckross road, cross Flesk bridge, and follow the path into the National Park, which is shared with jaunting cars and walkers, ensuring a peaceful yet alert cycling experience through beautiful landscapes.
The path continues alongside the road for approximately one kilometre before it veers right into the Yew Valley Wood, offering a scenic ride through one of the park’s most beautiful forests. As you cycle through the wood, you’ll eventually arrive at the 15th-century Muckross Abbey. Take some time to explore the well-preserved ruins and the vaulted cloister of the Abbey, which offer a glimpse into the area’s rich history.
Continue your ride past Muckross Traditional Farms and Muckross House, a stunning Victorian mansion offering guided tours. The nearby Muckross Craft Centre features a restaurant, shop, and workshops in traditional crafts like bookbinding, weaving, and pottery. It’s a perfect spot for cyclists to enjoy a scenic ride while exploring history, culture, and relaxation.
