Small-Group Reindeer Farm Tour Offers an Authentic Taste of Lapland Life

A half-day wilderness excursion from Levi invites visitors to experience everyday life in the Arctic through a small-group visit to a traditional family-run reindeer farm. After a scenic drive of approximately 35 minutes, guests arrive at a private farm beside a frozen wilderness lake, where a maximum of eight participants ensures a peaceful and personal experience away from crowded tourist attractions.

At the working reindeer farm, visitors have the opportunity to meet hundreds of reindeer, hand-feed them with lichen, and take one for a gentle walk under the guidance of local hosts. Throughout the visit, the family shares stories about the annual reindeer cycle, traditional herding practices, and the role these animals continue to play in Lapland’s culture and everyday life, providing an authentic perspective shaped by generations of experience.

The excursion then continues to a cosy lakeside cabin, where participants set out on an easy snowshoe walk across the frozen lake and into the surrounding snow-covered forest. Along the route, guides explain Lapland’s unique eight-season calendar and describe how the changing Arctic environment influences local traditions, wildlife, and daily routines.

The experience concludes beside a warm fire with grilled sausages, fresh pastries, and hot drinks served in the comfort of the cabin.
