Full-Day E-Bike Expedition Connects Kalapana Coastline with Volcanoes National Park

A new full-day guided cycling experience is offering visitors an extensive exploration of Hawaii’s Big Island, combining coastal lava landscapes with the dramatic terrain of Volcanoes National Park. The eight-hour tour uses powerful E-Bikes to provide an efficient and immersive way to cover diverse volcanic environments in a single journey.

The adventure begins at the HNF Gas Station in Keaau, followed by a short drive to Kalapana Beach Road. From there, riders encounter striking scenery shaped by the 2018 lava flow, including cliffside beaches, lava arches, dense tree tunnels, and a newly formed black sand beach created by volcanic activity.

Using Fat Tire E-Bikes, participants are able to travel long distances with minimal effort while maintaining full control on varied terrain. The bikes allow riders to move smoothly between sites, offering the flexibility to stop and take in the island’s natural highlights along the way.

The tour continues into Volcanoes National Park, where guests may take a break for lunch at a park restaurant before resuming their ride. Stops include lava tubes, steam vents, and, conditions permitting, views of an active lava lake. Designed for intermediate or experienced cyclists, the experience requires basic biking skills and adherence to safety guidelines for a secure and memorable journey.
