Lambeth’s Legendary Trailblazers: From Blake To Chaplin

Join me as we explore Lambeth, a lesser-known and often overlooked area of London, located just across the river from the Houses of Parliament. This area is rich with hidden history and fascinating stories, from its earliest residents to some of its most famous figures. On this walk, we will follow in the footsteps of a diverse mix of people who have lived here over the centuries, including poor street urchins, pedlars, Tudor princes, the visionary poet and artist William Blake, and the brilliant actor and filmmaker Charlie Chaplin. Lambeth’s history is full of surprises, revealing layers of social, cultural, and artistic influence that shaped both the area and the city at large.

Along the way, we will also discover architectural treasures, such as the striking red-brick 16th-century gatehouse of Lambeth Palace and the elaborately detailed Doulton factory building, showcasing the area’s historical and artistic significance. The walk lasts approximately an hour and 45 minutes, starting at Lambeth North station and concluding outside the Imperial War Museum.
