Did the walking tour and it was a great experience. Took about an hour and 40 minutes and was not strenuous. George, our tour guide was fantastic. A born and bred local who knew his stuff and told some great funny stories of growing up with the caves. The glow worms were outstanding and the "scenery" in the caves was really interesting with great information from George. I'd also recommend watching the video presentation in the ticketing office about the history of the caves before heading off on the tour.

We joined the Ruakuri Cave tour today, and it was absolutely amazing! Our guides, Morgan and George, were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and so patient — even when our curious 6-year-old kept asking endless (and sometimes completely random!) questions. They answered every one with genuine kindness and made our little boy feel so included and excited throughout the tour. The glowworms were simply magical — seeing them sparkle above us like a starry sky was an unforgettable experience. The whole tour was both fun and educational, and we learned so much about the cave’s history and natural wonders. Thank you, George and Morgan, for making this such a memorable day for our family. We highly recommend the Ruakuri Cave tour to anyone visiting Waitomo — especially families with young children!

Amazing! The natural formations are breathtaking and absolutely beautiful. The guide’s explanations were detailed and informative, making the experience even more enriching. Definitely worth a visit!

This cave was stunning and our guide Kelly was fantastic. Our grandchildren aged 4 and 5 loved it. The glowworms were wonderful. Kelly showed us the threads they need to find prey and the glowworms light and tube. Access is easy for all users including wheelchairs. Totally recommend.

This is an activity suitable for almost all fitness levels. A beautiful piece of New Zealand, the Ruakuri cave is accessed via guided tour. Tickets can be purchased online or on-site. It features stunning stalactites in a variety of shapes and, of course, glow worms. Ok for children as long as they are comfortable with dark places. Accessible most times of the year.
