The Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress stands as a jewel of architectural elegance, offering photographers a rich visual experience with its ornate interiors, grand staircases, and beautifully crafted details. This safari, led by professional architectural photographer E. David Luria, is timed to take advantage of the afternoon sunlight, which illuminates both the exterior and the Great Hall interior, enhancing the textures, colors, and intricate designs. Participants will begin by capturing the fountains and exterior architecture before moving inside to photograph the hand-painted ceilings, statuary, and decorative elements of the Great Hall. Instruction will focus on mastering low-light and mixed-light conditions, composing striking images of vaulting ceilings, and effectively using wide-angle lenses while maintaining straight verticals. The safari concludes in the Observation Gallery, where participants will photograph the renowned Reading Room, gaining skills in framing large interior spaces and capturing fine architectural details. Throughout the session, Mr. Luria provides guidance on composition, exposure, and lighting techniques, ensuring that both beginners and advanced photographers can achieve compelling results. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of architectural photography and a portfolio of stunning images from one of Washington, DC’s most iconic buildings.
