Salt is the only edible stone found in nature, which makes the Salt Valley of Añana a truly unique destination. This cultural site, with more than 6,500 years of history, is currently in the process of becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the morning, the tour begins at the Salt Valley, located east of Vitoria-Gasteiz, where visitors will learn about the unique properties of salt. The guided visit includes exploring the natural salt springs, observing the traditional salt production process—particularly active during the summer months—and experiencing the Salt Spa, where guests can soak their hands and feet to enjoy the health benefits of the mineral-rich waters. The morning concludes with a tasting of different salts, such as mineral salt, Arbequina salt, and wine salt, allowing visitors to savor the unique flavors of the region.
In the afternoon, the tour continues with a transfer to Vitoria for lunch at a traditional local restaurant. Following the meal, visitors will explore the Gothic-style Cathedral of Santa María, located at the top of the hill where the original city was founded, overlooking the old village of Gasteiz. This architectural masterpiece is internationally recognized for having inspired the continuation of Ken Follett’s novel, "The Pillars of the Earth." The guided tour of the cathedral allows guests to admire its intricate design, historical significance, and artistic details, providing a comprehensive experience that combines natural wonders, gastronomy, and cultural heritage.
