This tour is carefully crafted for those who seek a deeper and more alternative exploration of the Algarve, allowing for an unhurried and immersive experience. While the region is world-famous for its stunning coastline, golden beaches, and crystal-clear waters, there is so much more to discover beyond its shores. For travelers who wish to move away from the usual tourist spots, this journey unveils an entirely different side of the Algarve one rich in natural beauty, cultural heritage, and hidden landscapes that remain untouched by mass tourism.
Throughout this adventure, we take you on a journey through the Algarve’s most rural and secluded areas, offering a rare glimpse into the region’s unspoiled countryside. A significant portion of the route is done off-road, traversing secret trails that wind through verdant valleys, rolling hills, and rugged terrains. These exclusive paths lead to breathtaking viewpoints, where panoramic vistas of lush greenery and picturesque villages stretch as far as the eye can see. This experience is designed not only to showcase the Algarve’s lesser-known landscapes but also to create a meaningful connection with its authentic and serene environment.
Beyond the landscapes, this tour provides an opportunity to engage with local traditions and heritage, learning about the way of life that has been preserved in these remote areas. As we explore hidden gems far from the crowded beaches, you’ll witness a side of the Algarve that few travelers ever get to experience a land of tranquility, natural splendor, and a deep-rooted history that continues to shape the soul of this remarkable region.

Small dirt car park holds 20 ish vehicles; suitable for larger vehicles. Cafe is closed and up for lease. To get to the dam wall and trail, head to the cafe and signs will guide you to some steep steps down to the dam wall and the trail. We came in late March 2025 after several weeks of rain so the dam was not only nearly full, the scenery was vibrant green and stunning. There were a lot of puddles in the track but it’s still very walkable.

Nice view of the reservoir. Much storage capacity still available as of 3/20/2025.

We had been there 2 years ago. At that time there was still a nice cafetaria ( now for rent/sale ) and signposts with different trails. No more. It looks like the trails are blocked ? See photos. We did not dare tresspassing these signs. Or should we ?

There are plenty of good trails around the reservoir and across the dam. Nice little Cafe for lunch, too. The Hello-Goodbye has great sandwiches and dessert if you are hungry after hiking.

Many people follow Google maps and end up lost. We stayed four nights up in the hills and during that time we helped a cyclist and two cars to find the way. Beautiful area, nice and quiet with nice trails for walking or biking.
