Visit the infamous vaults hidden beneath the South Bridge in Edinburgh’s Old Town on this guided walking tour. These dimly lit underground spaces were once home to the city’s poor and unfortunate, offering a glimpse into the harsh realities of life in former slums. As you explore, your guide will share stories of crime, disease, and death that marked the lives of those who lived and worked in these eerie surroundings. The vaults were also frequented by criminals, body snatchers, and alleged witches, making them one of the most notorious locations in Edinburgh’s history. This tour provides a fascinating and chilling insight into the darker side of the city while immersing you in its rich and often macabre past.
During the tour, you will see a genuine witchcraft temple recently used by the Source Coven of the Blue Dragon and learn why the space became unsafe for their practices. Each vault holds a unique story, and your guide will provide all the gory details to bring the history to life. For those brave enough, stepping inside the infamous stone circle offers an unforgettable experience and a true sense of the mystery and danger that once surrounded these underground passages. This tour is perfect for history enthusiasts and thrill seekers alike.

Absolutely incredible place to visit. Our tour guide Louisa was fantastic. Very informative, very spooky and very accommodating to all the guests. The vaults themselves are a must see for any paranormal believer.

We did a night time scary tour of the Edinburgh vaults, which was fun, tongue in cheek spooky and a good laugh, very entertaining and worth doing to while away an hour at night.

We had a great time touring the South Bridge Vaults with our incredible tour guide Lisa! She was so knowledgeable about the history of the old town (both above and below ground) and brought the history to life with her dramatic storytelling. A super cool slice of history to see close up and personal.

Great way to experience the history of Edinburgh and the lost vaults. Our tour guide was great with a good sense of humour. He took us through the mysterious vault and gave us a great experience and sometimes a scare. Although, for March I would say it was quite a lot of people attending and sometimes felt crowded. I didn't realise when booking that there is a difference in experience with Night time or Daytime tours. Mine was the last Daytime one, which was around 16:30. Not quite sure what I missed, but I felt that wasn't communicated well on TripAdvisor.

First heard of the Edinburgh vaults on a TV show called Most Haunted. I wasn’t disappointed. Our guide was a very knowledgeable young man called Stewart and he gave a concise tour of the surrounding area. This was so we would have an idea of how the faults were created over the years due to the valley effect of the area Although the tour wasn’t a paranormal tour, it was still a very scary place to visit Stewart did not spare the details of what the living conditions were like hundreds of years ago in the vaults The Edinburgh Vaults are certainly worth a visit. I would recommend you put it on your list of attractions.
