Pretty unbelievable how much money this city has and how horribly unreliable the buses are. All they do is take advantage of underprivileged people in Dublin who literally cannot afford any other option of getting to and from work to keep this city running. What a joke. All the time tables in the city are totally fake. Buses skip stops after you wait 30+ mins past the pick up time. No explanation, no sorry, just you standing there like a clown in the freezing cold for another god knows how long. They’re either heartless or incomprehensibly incompetent, probably a fair dosage of both.
Very bad experience this morning with the H3 bus departing from Abbey Street at 9:22 AM towards Howth. We were surprised to find out that without a Leap Card, you must have exact change in coins, a completely outdated system, especially in a country where bank cards are the norm across Europe. We hadn’t planned to buy a Leap Card for a simple round trip and had a €10 note ready to pay. The driver could have easily exchanged it with coins from his till, instead, he rudely dismissed us, saying “I don’t care”. Even worse, it was Sunday morning and all nearby shops were closed, yet he told us to “go check the stores” for change, fully knowing that everything was shut and the bus was about to leave in just a few minutes. His attitude was both disrespectful and absurd. This behavior is unacceptable and gives a terrible impression of Dublin to its visitors. It is urgent: - to modernize the payment system (accept bank cards, banknotes, etc.), - and to ensure drivers are trained to treat passengers with basic respect and professionalism. We’re leaving Dublin with a bitter taste, and it’s a shame that something as simple as a bus ride could ruin what could have been a great experience.
This is the department that is responsible for public transport and infrastructure and at that it doesn’t do such a bad job. However, when it comes to all the individual moving parts, it is a mess. Starting with Luas security, they park left right and center as if they were the law. Just look at the picture I have posted and the guy is on his phone, clearly not an emergency. The you have Irish rail. It’s the far west out there, loud, drunk people, people playing their phone seriously loud, people with feet on seats and yet the security guys don’t say anything as they walk the trains; nor do the ticket controllers. And the Dublin bus, totally unsafe, full of pickpockets, drunk and unsavoury people… Whilst the minister responsible for transport racks in thousands of euros on taxpayer’s money…
I’ve never seen such a terrible public transport service. I thought Ireland is a developed country😅😂
Public transport in Dublin is getting worse and worse. Less buses doing service. Waiting for buses more than 40 min. Dirty buses is norm now. One of the worst public services in Europe.
