Kanazawa, known for its unique cultural richness, stands apart from both Tokyo and Kyoto. During the Edo period, it was called "Kaga Hyakumangoku" and was one of Japan’s largest cities. The city flourished under the rule of the Maeda family, who chose to invest their wealth in cultural development rather than military power. This decision allowed Kanazawa to become a significant cultural center, preserving many traditions and artistic expressions that continue to define the city today.

As you explore Kanazawa with a local guide, you'll encounter the city’s preserved samurai aesthetic, which remains an essential part of its identity. Remarkably, Kanazawa was spared from the devastating effects of war, allowing its historical sites to remain largely intact, offering visitors a rare and authentic glimpse into the past. The tour will take you to several key locations, including Omicho Market, known as the "kitchen of Kanazawa," where you can experience the city’s vibrant food culture. You will also visit Kenrokuen Garden, considered one of Japan’s most beautiful gardens, which showcases seasonal beauty through its lush landscapes, ponds, and traditional bridges. The Higashi Chaya District, with its 200 years of history, will transport you to a time when geisha culture was at its peak, with charming teahouses and narrow streets.

In addition to these well-known spots, the tour includes visits to hidden gems like secret streets that offer a glimpse of Japan’s oldest fountain, a peaceful and picturesque spot tucked away from the bustle. With the guidance of a knowledgeable local, you’ll gain deep insights into the city’s rich history, culture, and geography. By the end of the tour, you'll have a deeper understanding of what makes Kanazawa so special and why it remains a treasured city in Japan’s cultural heritage.

Our small group of four had an outstanding tour of Takeyama by local guide Kumiko Mitsuhata. Her knowledge of local history, culture and cuisines helped make our tour informative and tasty. Her positive and energetic personality made our tour fun despite having wet weather for most of the tour. Thank you Kumiko for sharing your beautiful Takayama City with us.

We had a very enjoyable and informative tour of some of Kanazawa’s historic sites and traditional craft studios with our delightful guide, Sachiko. She picked us up at our ryokan and took us on a fascinating exploration of the city that included demonstrations of gold leaf making, Kaganui embroidery, and Kaga-yugen kimono silk painting. She also guided us through the former Chaya Shima geisha house, now restored and a museum, telling us about the history of the geisha community over the centuries. Also on our itinerary was the beautiful modernist D.T. Suzuki Museum, dedicated to the Buddhist philosopher of that name, where Sachiko took us through the Water Mirror Garden and the Contemplative Space. We also enjoyed a delicious lunch with Sachiko at a curry restaurant. She brought us to the various locations at a perfect pace, imparting lots of interesting information without overwhelming us. She was very attentive to our interests and needs, and we felt like we were out for a day with a friend rather than a tour guide. Sachiko’s English is very good, and anglophones will find her enjoyable to listen to and able to answer questions with friendly enthusiasm. We are pleased to give Sachiko our highest endorsement!

Excellent Guided Tour in Kanazawa with Sachiko ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a fantastic guided walking tour in Kanazawa, exploring both the old samurai district and the historic geisha area. Our guide, Sachiko, who is a local from Kanazawa, was absolutely wonderful — warm, welcoming, and always smiling. She was an excellent storyteller, bringing the history of the Edo-period samurai to life with fascinating details and vivid anecdotes. We also gained a truly interesting insight into the world of geishas — their traditions, daily life, and the cultural importance they still hold in Kanazawa today. Sachiko’s deep knowledge, enthusiasm, and personal connection to the city made the tour both educational and very enjoyable. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kanazawa who wants to experience the city’s rich history and culture in an engaging and authentic way.

On Saturday, my aunt and I had an extremely good tour through Kanazawa. The day was fantastic, not only because of the great weather, but also because of our guide, Jorge. His little secrets are particularly special. He'll take you to the best and smallest Rahmen restaurant in town, or show you an old Christian stone lantern in a regular shop. Furthermore, he's very flexible and adapts the tour to your wishes. This shows that he really knows the area and knows exactly where to see and admire things in the city. He was also very caring and helpful to my aunt, who is a bit older. If I go back to Japan, my next tour will definitely be with Jorge.

We had a absolute fantastic time with Kanazawa tours. We booked a couple of tours and all of them were unique and amazing. Nozomi showed us the Geisha district with lots of inside information in a very funny and entertaining way and invited us to a authentic Japanese dinner. It was a great experience! Thank you so much! On another day we went for a kimono dress up session and had a traditional tea ceremony with Sachiko. What a great and fun experience! experience. We laughed a lot and had a real good time. Thank you so much! The next day Sachiko showed us Kanazawa in a way that our two Teenagers had the best day. We all loved it, but especially our kids enjoyed the day very much. She designed it on the spot just for our needs and for us adults she explained a lot about the history of Kanazawa. It was really great and everybody was happy! Thank you for those two wonderful days. We also booked a driving tour with Kanazawa. Tetsuro was a great guide and a very save and calm driver. He took us to Yamanaka and showed us beautiful spots in the country side. He knows a lot about natur and how it's used. Brilliant! He took great care of us and made a special effort to fulfil all our needs. Thank you for that beautiful experience!
