Paddle through the beautiful mangroves of St. Thomas on a self-guided SUP or kayak tour that allows you to explore at your own pace. Upon arrival at Virgin Islands Ecotours, guests receive a safety briefing and a map of the Mangrove Lagoon, and are outfitted with a stand up paddleboard or kayak, life jackets, and snorkel gear including mask and snorkel. Life jackets are required for safety while paddling and snorkeling, and fins are not permitted to protect the sanctuary. Guests can explore narrow waterways, secluded cays, a rare geological blowhole, and observe a wide variety of wildlife in the calm and protected waters. Paddling tips and directions to suggested sites are available upon request, or participants can discover the lagoon independently, making this experience suitable for beginners and experienced paddlers alike.
The self-guided tour is available all day, giving participants flexibility to set their own start time, duration, and pace. Options are available for four or eight hours, allowing ample time to explore and enjoy the area. Guests may bring a picnic or drinks from the home base snack bar to enjoy along the way. The main SUP area covers approximately one square mile, with all suggested points on the map reachable within twenty minutes of paddling through meandering mangrove forests and shallow clear waters. The tour provides an ideal combination of adventure, relaxation, and wildlife observation. Guests are encouraged to bring swim clothing, sun protection including hats and sunscreen, shoes that can get wet, water, and any necessary medications. Additional items such as cell phone dry bags, towels, swim shirts, hats, shoes, sunglasses, and reef safe sunscreen are available for purchase at the gift shop, enhancing comfort and convenience during the tour.
