Explore on Your Own – Mangrove Lagoon

Explore the Mangrove Lagoon in St. Thomas on a self-guided kayak tour that allows you to paddle at your own pace and set your own start time. Upon arrival at Virgin Islands Ecotours, guests receive a safety briefing and a map of the lagoon, and are outfitted with a single or two-person kayak, life jackets, and snorkel gear including mask and snorkel. Life jackets are required for safety while paddling and snorkeling, and fins are not permitted to protect the sanctuary. This tour offers the freedom to explore narrow waterways, secluded cays, a rare geological blowhole, and a variety of wildlife in a protected and scenic environment. Paddling tips and directions to suggested sites are available upon request, or guests can explore the area independently.

The self-guided tour covers approximately one square mile, with all recommended points reachable within twenty minutes of paddling through safe and protected waters. Guests can enjoy meandering mangrove forests, shallow clear waters, and the opportunity to snorkel in this beautiful marine sanctuary. The tour allows for flexibility, so participants can pack a picnic or drinks from the home base snack bar and make the most of the day on the water.
