The Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course is a four-hour, beginner-friendly program designed to teach participants how to respond to and provide pre-hospital care for casualties in adverse or high-threat environments. Based on the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) TECC curriculum, this course is intended for EMS practitioners, law enforcement officers, and responsible citizens who want to develop the skills needed to reduce preventable deaths in emergencies such as active shooter incidents, traumatic automobile accidents, or outdoor and hunting-related injuries. Participants learn to think critically and act quickly when providing care in HOT and WARM zones, with an introduction to COLD ZONE concepts and safe operational practices.
During the course, students focus on controlling massive bleeding and are introduced to the full MARCH casualty assessment and treatment protocol. They learn to use items commonly found in an Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK), including tourniquets, hemostatic gauze, and chest seals. The training incorporates the American College of Surgeons STOP THE BLEED program and covers the three phases of tactical care. In the HOT ZONE, participants learn to render care under direct threat, manage hemorrhage, and move casualties to relative safety. In the WARM ZONE, students apply the full MARCH assessment, addressing Massive bleeding, Airway, Respiratory, Circulation, and Hypothermia. Practical instruction includes tourniquet application, wound packing, airway management, chest seal placement, pulse checks, and hypothermia prevention, preparing participants to respond effectively in life-threatening situations.
