Save your money and your precious time, strictly avoid the Castle I+II floors. Worst exhibition I have seen in a good while. Every little cheesy museum anywhere in Europe is way better organised than this so-called state museum. They try to maximize profit by selling individual tickets for various areas of the Wawel. Yet I hardly remember having seen any museum that is as unorganized and chaotic. To start with, the "Main Ticket Office" is extremely hard to find, if you are not from here. No information, no signs, no maps, nothing. I had to ask my way through. At least there were no queues, as every sad tourist is instead queuing endlessly at the wee ticket office right after the gate on the ramp. The museum management must really be laughing at everybody with this shambles. Personally, I suspect the museum management could probably not even organize a drinking tour in a brewery. What an uninspired bunch of amateurs trying to actually run a museum. Moreover, their staff is most unfriendly, unhelpful, uneducated and obviously unwilling to do their job. One guard became extremely aggressive, after his colleague has sent us to the wrong entrance. Unbelievable. This guy's behaviour was simply inacceptable. I have filed an official complaint about said employee's rude behaviour, both physically and by email, but have received no response whatsoever. They take your money, but have not even the decency to apologize for the eejits they call wardens. As I said before, don't waste your time for their mediocre collection. The people responsible should hang their head in shame. My tip is: Enjoy the Wawel from outside, do the cathedral tour, just don't bother buying tickets for the inside. It's by far not worth the some 100 Zl. for a ticket, which practically is equal to theft given what you get in return.
The private chambers, in my opinion, are less interesting than the state rooms. Here we have various rooms arranged as living quarters for the rulers and their families. There are exhibitions of paintings and practically nothing but furniture. Among the more interesting things are the Kurza Stopka (Heat Stop), the chapel, and the preserved cordovans on the walls in many rooms.
