The Back Run River Front Campsites offer a primitive paddle-in camping experience for up to six campers. These sites are designed for guests participating in overnight river trips and are not generally accessible by vehicles. The campsites are located near Gilmore Mills, Virginia, fifteen and a half miles downstream from Buchanan and five miles below Alpine boat landing on river left. The property is six miles above the Glasgow boat landing and can be reached via State Route 708, Gilmore Mills Road, near Natural Bridge Station. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring, and level gravel area suitable for tents. A group river access area and porta potty are also provided. There are no utilities or water on site, so guests must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash. The rate is fourteen dollars per person per night plus tax with a minimum thirty six dollar camping fee, and children under five are not counted for billing purposes.
This campground provides a quiet and scenic riverside setting, ideal for those seeking a more secluded and natural camping experience. Paddle-in access encourages a sense of adventure and allows guests to enjoy the river and surrounding nature without vehicle traffic. The location offers a relaxing environment for small groups or families to camp, explore, and enjoy outdoor activities such as swimming, fishing, and hiking along the river. Advanced reservations are required, and the site is perfect for those looking for a simple, rustic getaway close to the water. The Back Run River Front Campsites provide an authentic outdoor experience while maintaining privacy and natural beauty.
