The River Front campground is a scenic riverside site located at 1800 Arcadia Road in Buchanan Virginia. The campground features ten tent-only campsites along the 20.5 mile mark of the James River, offering both drive in and paddle in access. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and a level gravel area for setting up tents. The property also provides a group river access area, port a potties, and a dumpster for trash. There are no water or utility hookups available, so visitors must bring their own water and pack out all trash. The campground is located about six river miles downstream from the Buchanan canoe livery and thirteen miles upstream from the Glasgow boat landing, making it ideal for paddlers looking to enjoy a riverfront stay. The site is downstream from the Arcadia Virginia DGIF public boat landing and can be accessed via I81 exit 168 with a short drive on Arcadia Road. No RVs or trailers are allowed and vehicle length is restricted due to a low railroad bridge nearby.
Guests staying at the campground will enjoy a peaceful natural setting with easy access to the river for paddling or fishing. Tent campers can relax by the fire ring or picnic table while taking in the scenic views and sounds of the river. The campground is quiet and perfect for families or small groups seeking a simple outdoor experience. Advanced reservations are required as the site is unmanned, and all visitors are responsible for bringing their own camping gear, water, and supplies. The area allows both drive in and paddle in access, making it convenient for day trips or longer stays. With no electricity or water provided, the campground offers a true primitive camping experience where visitors can enjoy nature in a serene setting along the James River.
