Colorado is an exceptional destination for ice climbing, where the idea of ascending a frozen waterfall transforms from improbable to achievable with the right guidance. Experienced instructors help climbers develop the rhythm, balance, and technique needed to move efficiently on ice, making it possible to climb throughout the winter season and beyond. The state offers a wealth of climbing locations, from the well-known ice park and expansive backcountry terrain in the San Juans near Lake City to more approachable, low-commitment venues in the Front Range. This broad range ensures that climbers of all abilities can find terrain that matches their goals and comfort level.

From the very first swing of an ice tool, climbers have countless opportunities to grow. Beginners can start by learning how to use crampons, ice tools, and essential safety systems, building confidence on simpler routes. As skills progress, more advanced challenges become accessible, including classic multi-pitch climbs like The Sherman Route or technical mixed and alpine objectives. With its diverse terrain, expert instruction, and stunning winter landscapes, Colorado truly offers something for everyone looking to explore the world of ice climbing.

Had a great time today in North Cheyenne Canyon! I was guided by Dolan and it was an amazing experience. The amount of knowledge I was exposed to today was incredible. From learning top rope belaying to lead belaying and cleaning routes. Also just overall technical knowledge of the gear we were using. Definitely would recommend to anyone wanting to get out there!

We had an incredible day climbing with our guide, Max! He led us on a multi-pitch lead route in Clear Creek Canyon (Creek Side area) and absolutely exceeded expectations. Max provided clear, concise instruction that made us feel safe and confident the entire time, but he also had the easygoing vibe of a good friend. He was knowledgeable, patient, and answered every question we threw his way. You can tell he truly cares about creating an awesome experience for his clients while also allowing us to learn along the way. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or a more fun day on the wall. Highly recommend Max and Front Range Climbing Company to anyone looking to climb in the area!

I had an amazing time with Justin and Nathan climbing in the Garden of the Gods. I always felt safe. I was always challenged just enough. Justin and Nathan gave me the help I needed when I got stuck. The photos Nathan took make for a super special memento of the day. On the second climb I said “This is what my life needed!” It was an experience I’ll never forget and hope I get to repeat !

We had such a wonderful experience with our guide Max this morning climbing at Garden of the gods, we did the 2hr climb and Max did an excellent job guiding us and making this a memorable and super fun experience. He was extremely knowledgeable, patient and just a nice person overall. I fully recommend asking for Max to be your guide. I will come back and do half or even the full day next time with him.

So grateful for the experience I had at North Cheyenne canyon. I haven’t climbed outdoors in years and my guide, Jen, was so kind and encouraging. I did my first multi pitch climb and even through my moments of panic Jen was so patient and calm. I have nothing but good things to say and hope to climb again with FRCC in the future!
