Architectuur rondleiding over Alvar Aalto in Rovaniemi

Rovaniemi was almost completely destroyed at the end of World War II, and the post-war reconstruction required tremendous effort. Alvar Aalto took on the task of developing a new city plan for Rovaniemi as well as a regional development plan. The city library, theater, and town hall form the core of Aalto’s vision for Rovaniemi, showcasing his innovative approach to urban planning and architecture. Interestingly, the city plan designed by Aalto is said to resemble the shape of a reindeer, reflecting his creative integration of local culture and symbolism into the city’s layout.

During the visit to Aalto’s buildings, we will marvel at the unique use of light throughout the interiors and exteriors.
