This was a fab experience, our second with Tanfield rail, the kids love the steam train a wooden carriages makes it feel rustic and north pole old, Santa is amazing and you get to have a full conversation with him and his Elfs before heading to Mrs Clauses cafe for a complimentary tea or coffee and a biscuit for the grownups and certain of apple or orange and a shaped biscuit for the kids then on to the activity tent where Santas Elfs host arts and craft activities to keep the kids busy then back on the train for home. The experience lasts about 2 and a half hours.
I really enjoyed the whole experience as did both my daughters (4 & 7). The elf show before we got on the train and the two elves were great and bubbly. Father Christmas at the North Pole was fantastic. One of the best I've seen. My only complaint was the actual visit with him felt a bit quick. You get a snack and drink at the north pole as well which were nice. There are also some activities for kids to do whilst there. (Colouring, letters to Santa and making reindeer dust when we visited.) A lot of effort is obviously put in, the volunteers (assuming volunteers) obviously take a lot of pride in it. The stations looked great, even in the rain. The only thing I think could make it better is having more elves to welcome and say fair well to people in the North Pole bit. We went a few years ago and they had some up there which made it feel a bit more magical.
My family visited and when I saw the photos and video I was so angry. With a one and seven year old this was totally unacceptable! The train was a dimly lit wooden carriage with bunting up and dirty windows full of condensation whith no hot chocolate etc which also broke down! It's an absolute disgrace and charged £80 for a dismal visit. I've seen nothing like it. What a pure disgrace!!! I don't understand any good reviews after the video and photos that I've seen. What a CON!! I can't upload the photos either!!
