I think the view from Morro Dois Irmãos is the most beautiful in Rio de Janeiro. The trail to the top is of medium difficulty: short, but quite steep, and it can get slippery if it has rained. I wouldn’t recommend it for those who don’t enjoy hiking. However, to enjoy a view of this magnitude, I’d say it’s the easiest trail in Rio. To get there, you’ll need to take a “mototaxi” (R$7–10 per person) from the entrance of Vidigal favela, or you can walk up — which takes about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on your pace. Once the mototaxi drops you off, you’ll pass a soccer court and soon see signs for the beginning of the trail. There’s a “voluntary/mandatory” contribution of R$10.00 collected by local residents (make sure to contribute), and from that point on, the trail is up to you. The path is fairly open and well-trodden due to the high number of visitors, but poorly marked. Halfway through, there’s a small stop where you can buy beer, water, soft drinks, and some snacks, and sit on small chairs with a view that’s already stunning. From there on, the trail gets steeper and more slippery. I did the hike in 40 minutes, but if you’re not used to hiking, it may take you between 1 and 2 hours. Bring something to eat, but always respect nature and take your trash back with you.

Our favorite thing we did in Rio! The hike isn’t too hard and the experience getting there is so much fun! Plus, the view from the top is equal to the one you get from the more popular locations in Rio with significantly fewer people. We also saw lots of wildlife like monkeys and toucans!

I have to warn you of three important things we had no clue of when doing this hike: 1) the neighborhood where trailhead is located is extremely sketchy 2) Transport: the only way to go to trailhead is to walk 30 min uphill towards trailhead in the heat or hire a motorbike. 3) the trail itself is also completely uphill for 1h15 min in hot, humid air, to the top. I consider it a short, yet difficult hike. We took uber to trailhead, but uber refused to go up saying cars aren't allowed. From the main street, there is 30 minutes uphill walk to trailhead and the entire path is through favelas (slum neighborhood of rio). I do NOT recommend to solo female or even 2 female travellers to go alone. Dont even risk it! You can take a motorbike which presumably charges 20 real per each way, 7 real if you speak portugués. Then entrance fee is 10 real cash. The hike is 1h15 min completely uphill and about 50 minutes down back to the trailhead. Then add another 25 minutes to walk back to the main street to uber back. Honestly what we did which was outright stupid, was to follow google maps for walking path and to walk within the favelas to come back. We got lost. We saw people with guns, and I am thankful we made it back safe! The view at the top os outright breathtaking! I highly recommend getting motorbikes and go as a group of 2 or 3.

Uber to the praco do vidigal which is the plaza at the entrance of the favela. Grab a motorbike taxi up to the trailhead for R$7 but I got charged R$10. Then pay R$10 for the trail fee. STEEP short hike but 10/10 views of Rio. After the hike is a must visit to the rooftop bars overlooking the favela. Do not go to the overpriced entry fee rooftops. Take the stairs down for the local, chill rooftop bars.

Hike is about an hour. Be there by 415 at the latest to start hiking if you want to see the very beginnings of the sunrise. Hike is more or less a continuous set of steps. Only one part has a rope to grab because it's steep. The trail is very straight forward, all the side paths typically take you to an overview. Not terribly dangerous in terms of falling. Can get slightly humid so maybe bring some water and a light snack. Bugs weren't bad at the end of April but maybe spray ahead of time. At that time of day bikes costs about R$7 so bring lots of small bills. Park entrance was R$10. If you bring R$100 you should be fine. I went with a guide because I'm a gringo in a favela at 4 am in the morning. Hiking down I went alone because I wanted to stay longer than other people. Was not hard returning and there are signs every so often about it being a park that reassured me I was doing it right. Plus many visual clues I remember seeing going up. Be sure to either use your phone's flashlight(charged) or have one as it's pitch dark amongst the trees. It's heaven up there and it's how I spent my last day of a month trip here in Rio.
