Each rental includes life vests and a large 70qt cooler, giving you everything you need for a smooth and carefree outing. Guests may bring their own snacks and drinks or purchase them conveniently at the fully stocked marina store, with alcohol permitted for adults 21+. Optional add-ons such as paddleboards and the popular Lily Pad floating island offer even more ways to relax, play, and enjoy time on the water.
To ensure a seamless experience, guests should arrive one hour before departure, as the start time is firm and all passengers—including children and babies—must complete required waivers before check-in. Pricing varies by season and does not include fuel or tax, and all rentals must be returned by 6:00 PM, regardless of the rental duration, with late returns subject to additional fees and gratuity. Had a fantastic few days onboard 'Jellybelly' - perfect size for the two of us. Not having 'barged' before Paul suggested a route down to Athy which was just perfect. If you want an idea of how slow the pace is, people walking on the towpath were overtaking us. If you're looking for a break away from the hustle of modern life this is it. Paul provided a comprehensive briefing of all the main aspects and everything went perfectly. Hopefully we'll be able do it again and take a different route
Best family vacay ever!!! We booked 4 days on Jellybelly for my dad's 70th birthday. He had rented jellybelly before for our granddad's birthday and had the best time. Paul was an absolute gem.... he helped us plan the perfect barge trip. He was in regular contact and made sure we had everything we needed for our trip. Jellybelly was comfortable and clean. Our whole party loved cruising along the canal and travelling through the locks . I would highly recommend renting from Jennifer travels. Thanks Paul for all your help. Can't wait to book again, jen
Everything about the boat was excellent; the owner keeps it in tip-top shape, everything works perfectly, and it is comfortably outfitted with everything you need (including peat for the stove, firestarters, and extra blankets). When you arrive for check-in, he shows you all you need to know, then drives you to the local grocery store for provisions (buy lots of water!), then takes you to the first lock to show you how to operate it (but there are lock handlers who do the work for you---be nice and tip them at the end of each day). The boats are easy to drive; Paul (owner) makes everything so easy, and provides helpful support throughout your vacation via text or phone. The owners are really nice people, and we had a great vacation. Soooooo much fun! So relaxing, and such beautiful scenery! Note that the smaller boats are a bit cramped even for 2 people, so we recommend splurging on a larger one---for sure you need to do that if you have 4 people! Photos are of the boat JellyBelly. For a great time and a taste of auld Ireland, be sure not to miss the truly excellent little pub "Fisherman's Inn", just south of Monasterevin. Also note that no local pubs serve food (so you'll need those groceries) and there are only two (occasionally working) ATMs in Monasterevin (there is also one in the grocery at Rathangan), so plan accordingly.
So this was the best and most relaxing vacation we have ever had!!! A canal boat trip on the Grand Canal is wonderful!!! Or as they say In Ireland… it was lovely!!!! Paul the owner is delightful and will get you set up for an amazing trip…. The lock masters along the way are extremely helpful… make sure you are safe and get through the locks …. Jennifer's travels is a great family run operator on the river Barrow and the Grand Canal we strongly recommend. We had great times and support from both Paul the owner and Billy the lock keeper. For Paul, it's clearly more a labour of love than just a matter of business. His barges are well kept and neatly organized in every single detail. Sailing on Applejack was very pleasant and comfortable. Thank you so much Paul for all the great moments, full of kindness and humour! Many precious memories we will keep. Kindest regards.
