A beautiful lake where you can walk along the shore, but not all the way around, perhaps just under half the lake. The road is closed in the summer months from 9am to 7pm, but if you arrive before 9am, you can drive up and return at any time. Careful with Google maps as it determined the road was closed so tried to take us through some roads only designed for land rovers. It's a great walk, but going down and back up needs some fitness. It is well worth the climb down and back up and I would recommend it.
Worth the hike - you start at the viewpoint, and follow down the stairs. You walk all the time by the lake coastline, narrow path. I suggest you take shoes for mountain hikes, don't wear sandals please. The hike takes less than 45 minutes in one direction, and I suggest you end the hike at the first big beach, right around the corner is the second beach much longer than the first one, but it doesn't look that nice. At the beach you can make a stop, before continuig back on the same path to the view point. Nature here is amazing, really worth the effort.
Every morning we looked up to the highest mountain that was an active volcano. "Go to the volcano when the clouds are gone and the sky are clear" the locals told us. "Then you'll have a great view of the island". And so we wait for the perfect morning and went. What we didn't know was that you can't get there with your car. A policeman stopped us and directed us to a near by parking lot. Than we waited almost an hour for the bus to arrive. The ticket costs 5 euro and the bus stopped 5 minutes in every view point. If you're late, you'll have to wait for the next bus. I think that you got the point. The view is beautiful, the bus ride, less.
Lagoa do Fogo is one of the highlights on São Miguel. The diverse vegetation around the lake is truly exceptional and beautiful. It's an absolute must-see for everyone. However, it's important to know that between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM, you can only go up by bus, for which you need to buy a ticket (available in cash or online).
If you wanna go to the see, you can hiking down the path. You should have good shoes. It is not allowed 🚫 to go swimming!!! We see a lot of people that they go swimming. There are so many shields at the beach that says: swimming is not allowed. Your damage the water there because your sun blocker 🧴 is going into the water. The most of them are not good for the water. In the see and around there are many birds and fish. It is a quiet place.
