Underwater Photography Course Helps Divers Capture the Ocean’s Beauty

Certified divers with a passion for photography can take their skills to the next level through the SDI Underwater Photographer course. Designed for users of any camera system, the program introduces the essential techniques required to create stunning underwater images while navigating the unique challenges of a marine environment.

The course begins with a comprehensive workshop covering key photographic principles such as exposure, composition, lighting, and image clarity. Participants also learn practical methods to reduce backscatter and improve color accuracy, helping them capture vibrant photographs that showcase the beauty of the underwater world. Following the classroom session, divers apply these concepts during a boat dive at the renowned Busselton Jetty Underwater Sculpture Trail.

During the second day, students build upon the skills acquired in the initial session while exploring new creative approaches underwater. Additional diving opportunities allow participants to experiment with different angles, subjects, and lighting techniques, developing greater confidence behind the camera and refining their photographic style.

By completing the full process of planning, shooting, and editing images, divers earn their Underwater Photographer Specialty certification while creating a portfolio of memorable photographs. The course provides valuable knowledge that can enhance future diving adventures, allowing participants to document marine life, underwater landscapes, and artistic reef environments with greater skill and creativity.
