After serving the Royal Australian Navy for over two decades, this 113-metre naval destroyer was deliberately scuttled off the coast of Dunsborough in 1997. Resting on the ocean floor, the wreck has become a vibrant artificial reef, teeming with marine life and attracting divers from around the world. With its deepest point at 32 metres and the crow’s nest reaching just 8 metres below the surface, the HMAS Swan offers exploration opportunities at multiple levels, making it suitable for both open water and technical divers. The ship’s large hull cut-outs provide exciting access for divers to navigate both inside and outside the vessel.
Beyond the structural marvel of the wreck itself, the surrounding waters are alive with diverse marine species. Large grouper and batfish can be found patrolling the exterior, while schools of bullseye fish and the striking Western Blue Devils inhabit the interior rooms of the ship. This combination of historical significance, structural complexity, and rich aquatic life makes the HMAS Swan an unforgettable dive experience for divers seeking both adventure and natural beauty beneath the waves.
