A really amazing experience! We did the Black History of New Orleans tour via automobile which was especially helpful as my partner is not capable of a tour with extensive walking. Mr. Waters is a terrific teacher, unveiling the true history of New Orleans for us. Do not leave New Orleans without doing one of their tours!!!

Hidden History Tours is a MUST if you are planning to visit New Orleans. Mr. Leon Waters is a true gem with a wealth of knowledge about the city’s rich history and culture. We were celebrating our 40th high school class reunion and enjoyed every second. We did not want the tour to end!

THIS NEEDS TO BE IN YOUR TOP 10 THINGS TO DO IN NEW ORLEANS!!! A friend of mine recommended that we take a walking tour called African Life in the French Quarter with Hidden History Tours led by Mr. Leon Waters. I am so glad she did because this was probably our favorite excursion from our whole trip. Mr. Leon is an activist, a historian, a respected community member and has an active role in creating change within New Orleans. He was funny, personable, knowledgeable, and we just truly felt like our time with him wasn’t enough. He even came with folders and printouts of all the materials that we would be learning about! We learned so much about the history of New Orleans, and it has us asking us questions about our own city (Philly). You will not be disappointed on this tour! Book with Mr. Leon today! We miss you Mr. Leon! So much love and respect! From Andreana & James!

I do not typically like tours, especially walking tours in touristy areas, but Mr. Leon Waters changed my mind. Mr. Waters shows rather than tells. He provided us with almost 20 documents backing up the history he recounted to us. He is a performer, storyteller, historian, and an expert in New Orleans history, specifically that of African Life in the French Quarter, which was the title of the tour we took. You’ll learn a lot, have a great time and it’ll make you rethink your own relationship to the places you come from. Couldn’t recommend Mr. Leon Waters highly enough. I’d take that tour every time I come to town. Don’t forget to tip!

I would give him 10 stars if I could!!! Mr. Leon Waters is an amazing man that fools you at first thinking he will walk slow but he suddenly jets off and you are left there scrambling to catch up! He is a wise man who has lived through so much and he not only witnessed things but takes action to make right what is wrong. I was so impressed with his bravery and the many ways he initiated change for good. He defines terms for you (like how a Creole person is a child born of black and white parents). And like another Yelper mentioned, he provides a portfolio given to you that accentuates his tour and it’s VERY well organized!! It is a very interactive tour and you get to hold very historical items. I won’t say what they are so I don’t ruin it, but those helped me learn a lot. It produced a strong emotion for me to experience something that was used for evil on precious children and adults. This tour really takes you deep into the mindset of things. Mr. Waters also teaches us about symbolism and how important it was in many aspects! It’s about a 2 hour walking tour and I highly recommend bringing enough water (but there are no restroom breaks in between) and a hat. This tour is worth every minute of your time and New Orleans will have a different look to it after you go through it. It’s very educational and important to know the history.
