Embark on a fascinating journey through Sweden’s rich history on this full day tour exploring some of the country’s most remarkable historical sites. Begin with a visit to the charming town of Sigtuna, where you will enjoy a guided city walk and learn about its Viking and medieval roots. Travel onward to Varpsund to see the Ingvar runestone and the massive Vendel era grave mounds, uncovering the tales of legendary Viking adventures and dramatic power struggles among early Swedish kings. Pass by Håtuna royal farm, where historical rivalries shaped the future of the kingdom, and hear the stories preserved through sagas and medieval chronicles.

Continue the tour to the picturesque island of Biskops-Arnö, once the summer retreat of the Swedish archbishops, where you will marvel at the magnificent cellar with Gothic vaults and historic pillars. Visit a medieval church adorned with striking wall paintings by Albertus Pictor, whose workshop decorated dozens of churches in Sweden during the fifteenth century. On the journey back to Stockholm, stop at Boglösa to admire extensive Bronze Age rock carvings, one of the most impressive collections in the country. This tour provides a deep and engaging experience of Swedish history, from the Viking age through medieval times and beyond, all while enjoying comfortable transportation and expert guidance.

We had a very enjoyable half day Viking history tour which incorporated visiting a former Viking farm, a causeway, a meeting place and Sigtura. Along the way we were introduced to runes that had helped to identify these places and learnt about the people that lived there. There were only four of us on the tour, so whilst it was a public tour, it felt very personal and our guide Olof, was very accommodating. For example, we chose not to stop for lunch so that we maximised our time in Sigtura. I would thoroughly recommend this tour. I had contemplated the 8 hour tour and part of me wished that I had chosen the longer tour, but I think this was actually a better choice as I ended wanting more. Whilst we were driving around, Olof also chatted a lot about Sweden in general and it was lovely to have those conversations with him. He also recommended we take the boat trip from Stockholm to Drottningholm Palace which we did the next day and enjoyed enormously.

Not only was our driver, Natalie, amazing, but so too was our guide Karin. Both women were personable, enthusiastic and so very gracious. Natalie’s driving was safe and she too offered so much insight into the history of Sweden. Then, Karin, was a wealth of information about Uppsala. The entire day was fabulous from start to finish!

An excellent educational day with Jakob! Just finished a full day tour with Swedish history tours. It was very interesting and informative day and we got to see a number of different sites, including Viking runestones and places where the Vikings gathered as well as burial mounds predating the Vikings. Jakob was an excellent guide and it was a great day.

Overall the tour was very informative. Learned a lot about the Viking history. The weather was not the best and since most of this is outdoors we stood in the cold and rain listening, which was not enjoyable. We were not prepared or dressed appropriately. Maybe a reminder ahead of time about the change in weather leaving Stockholm. Gabriel our guide was great with the information. I personally absolutely loved the churches and the cemeteries. I discovered on my own that they were actually brochures at a couple of the churches that explained a little bit more about them. I wish that we had been told about those upfront and offered it. After reading through those after returning from the tour I found it to add value. It was nice having Gabriel as our driver because he was able to explain things as we drove along. Love that we were able to get outside of the city and see the countryside.

Our tour guide was Erik for a tour through historic towns in Sweden - including Sigtuna and Uppsala. He was incredibly knowledgeable and had detailed information about the history of the Vikings while entertaining any questions that we may have had. I highly recommend Sweden History Tours and hopefully you are lucky enough to have Erik guiding you.
