We recently participated in a snow mobile adventure with Glacier Journey on the Skalafellsjökull and Vatnajökull glaciers and had a great time. We reserved a few days in advance and while the tour operator is based out of Hofn met at their summer location at Hotel Smylabjorg near the glacier half an hour before our tour began. Glacier Journey has a great staff. They fitted everyone in necessary gear (suit, helmet, gloves, buff for your neck) and took us up to the glacier by way of heavy duty 4X4 vehicles up a serious F road route nearby. Eventually we arrived at location where the snow mobiles were kept, we were given instructions on how to use them and were then led out onto the glacier where we road probably 15-20km out and back through the snow. There were several stops to take pictures, throw snowballs and admire the glacier scenery before arriving back at the starting point, where we packed back into their vehicles to be taken back down to the Hotel Smylabjorg summer office. All in all this was a great activity. We had no prior snow mobile experience and found everything to fairly simple and lot of fun. Drivers license is required to operate the snow mobiles. There were some children on our trip as well, they are allowed to pair up with adult drivers. It was a very fun activity for everyone and something we'd gladly do again with Glacier Journey when visiting the south of Iceland again. Note: We brought food and drinks but it wasn't necessary for this near 3 hour experience. Ended up just leaving them in the car at the summer office and eating them there. Note: No toilets up on the glacier so best to use the facilities at the summer office before departing. Next opportunity is when you return a few hours later.

Best tour operators! Had a wonderful, unique experience with my parents. The tour operators were very patient to us beginners and answered all of our questions. Stephan was a great driver across all that rough terrain and helped us understand Icelandic herding culture a little more. My parents really appreciated it.

We had the best time with glacier journey snowmobile company in Iceland! Despite being super late due to getting lost, they separated the group and waited for us which was incredibly kind and completely saved our day. Tinna, one of the owners, was hilarious and set the tone right from the start by joking and making us feel comfortable. Our tour guide, Mike, was amazing. He was informative, fun and easy to talk to, and made the experience and our day even more enjoyable. 5 stars and highly recommend this company for an unforgettable adventure

Our family of five booked a super Jeep tour of the glacier and ended up doing a snowmobile tour upon the recommendation of the Glacier Journey staff. The reason being the snowmobiles are faster on the now soft snow due to summer temps. It ended up being a great suggestion. We had a great time. Very professional guides and efficiently run. Highly recommend Glacier Journey.

Great snow mobile tour an the glacier. The staff was helpful and were keen on giving everyone an excellent experience. I recommend to book the solo rider - it's just more fun when everyone has his own snow mobile.
