We went here on a day tour from Sydney. It was fantastic! We really wanted to see kangaroos and wombats in the wild and we saw a lot more than we were hoping for. Wombats don't seem to be bothered by people being around which was surprising. Kangaroos are more shy.

Amazing wildlife wombats by the dozens. Counted 17 one night on dusk. The scratching on your vehicle does wake you up though haha. Amazing beautiful well maintained campground! Huge areas to camp and spread out, mind you we never went during peak holiday season.

If you want to see wombats in the wild, Bendeela Recreation Area is the place to go. We arrived in the afternoon and as soon as the sun started to set, the wombats came out everywhere! It was amazing to see them grazing right next to the tents. They are wild animals but very calm if you give them space. Such a special experience to be so close to nature. A must-visit if you love wildlife!
Maya

Amazing experience for the price. We saw 30 wombats there - absolutely incredible. The amenities were clean, but just be aware that you won’t have phone signal. Only criticism, there were two buses coming in the evening, with many loud tourist scaring and not respecting the wildlife.

Such a beautiful and peaceful spot to camp! The views in the morning are stunning — mist over the river and wombats wandering around everywhere, absolutely adorable 🩵 The area’s clean, open and perfect for tents or a chill weekend getaway. There are toilets but no showers, so bring your own if you need one. Overall, a great camping spot to unwind and catch a gorgeous sunrise.
