The best boating experience I’ve had. And been doing this since early 80s

We had a large boat for two couples. The boat was immaculate, clean, and there was plenty of space in the rear cabin. I've already sailed and have a Croatian motorboat license. That doesn't help much with such a large boat and on the river. The instruction was very rudimentary, and you quickly become overwhelmed by the many new things you have to consider. You're not prepared for mooring in difficult conditions, such as currents, narrow spaces, wind, etc., which actually occur in a different form at almost every mooring. You learn something new every day. Parking straight ahead, as we did during the initial training, almost never happens in practice. There were four of us and we were always busy mooring and going through locks. Man, I sweated during the first locks and moorings. Always a challenge. I would never do it with two people. There was a lot of chaos and material damage on other boats, too. It must have been the end of some marriages. The boats are well padded and can withstand a lot, but nothing can prevent it. Thankfully, we made it through without any significant damage. Next time, it'll be easier. The trip on the Shannon was otherwise great, and when we were underway, we could enjoy the beautiful scenery. The consistently good pubs, often with live music, made up for the stress of docking. Returning the boat was straightforward, and the worn fender wasn't criticized.
