Great resource, lovely surface and great to get off the roads walking, running and on a bike
One of the many entrances and exits of the greenway passing through Athlone. Just be mindful of each other whether you are walking, running or cycling; don't make sudden turns and look around before doing so. Besides that just enjoy the scenery as you pass through field, meet wild cats along the way, spot birds and don't forget to checkout the fitness park if you happen to walk that far up ahead!
This is one of the best Greenways in all of Ireland & we have recently traveled around Ireland for 3 months, cycling many Greenways. The Old Rail Trail Greenway has fantastic stops along the way for coffee & food, a wonderful smooth riding surface & good signage to help with navigation. We cycled Mullingar to Anthlone plus a few diversions to ensure we clocked up 100km as we are training for an upcoming cycle tour of Spain & Portugal. This is a great asset to the local area, the instigators deserve a big congratulations for planning & constructing this wonderful greenway. Cheers Graeme & Jane - Oz
