Northumbria was, for much of the 7th and 8th centuries, the most powerful kingdom in the British Isles, led by influential rulers such as the fierce Æthelfrith, the revered Oswald, and the shrewd Oswiu. Their leadership shaped a unique cultural landscape, blending Anglo-Saxon, British, Irish, Scottish, and Pictish influences through both military might and religious devotion. This rich heritage forms the foundation of a fascinating period that continues to inspire historians and visitors alike. This full-day tour invites you to explore this remarkable legacy by visiting Jarrow Hall, an Anglo-Saxon farm and the Bede Museum; St. Aidan’s Church in Bamburgh; and Ad Gefrin, England’s first whisky distillery and Anglo-Saxon Museum dedicated to the royal palace at Yevering Bell. All entry fees are included, and you will be returned to your accommodation at the end of the day.

Enjoyed our tour here, far from the first distillery tour we've done, but interesting nonetheless. Good to hear about the history of the place and surrounding area, and the museum (included in the tour price, or £10 on its own) was also quite interesting too. One of the better tasting experiences at the end of the tour, a lot of thought has gone into this. Looking forward to seeing what the distillery whisky is like when it's ready, but for now the blends they have in the shop and for tastings have also been put together with care to get a quality product. Good café/bistro on site too

This is a splendid little Anglo-Saxon museum, probably worth the slightly adventurous £10 per person admission for the opportunity to spend time talking to experts on their subjects. Clever audio visual presentation. There’s a distillery tour too, ambitiously priced, and a nice-looking restaurant.

Ad Gefrin is an incredible experience that blends history, culture, and whiskey. The museum is fascinating, offering a well-told story of the Anglo-Saxon people who settled in the area and their lasting legacy. The building itself is stunning—modern yet rooted in the heritage of the region. The whiskey tasting was both fun and entertaining, with knowledgeable staff who made it enjoyable from start to finish. A must-visit for history lovers and whiskey fans alike!

We took the museum tour and it was excellent. The place itself is exceptional and feels overall very posh. I bet the whisky tasting and meals are amazing from the look and feel of the museum. There is a car park on site. The gift shop is very good and I picked up a bottle of rum. There were some branded whisky tumblers on display but they were only display pieces that you can't buy which was a bit disappointing. I hope they change that very quickly as they looked great. I did pick up a smaller glass though. The staff were brilliant and knew the local area well and pointed us in the right direction for a few other bits. They need to get more branded key rings, pe s and pencils as these go down very well with visitors.
