Having once been the northern frontier of the Roman Empire, the North East of England holds an extraordinary legacy shaped by soldiers, settlers and distant cultures. This story reaches from Carlisle, the command centre during the campaigns of Emperor Septimius Severus, to the western stretches of Hadrian’s Wall. The journey begins with the remarkable Roman collection at Tully House Museum before moving east to Birdoswald Roman Fort, once home to a thousand-strong unit from the far edges of the empire. As the wall cuts through dramatic landscapes, its central section reveals Housesteads, the most complete Roman fort in Britain, and Vindolanda, where decades of excavations have uncovered vivid details of everyday life and military organisation. Continuing eastward, the final chapter of the experience unfolds in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where the Great North Museum showcases many of the wall’s most important archaeological finds. The route then leads to Segedunum Roman Fort at Wallsend and finally to Arbeia in South Shields, once a major supply base at the mouth of the River Tyne. Together these sites complete a compelling exploration of Hadrian’s Wall, offering insight into how Rome defended its empire, integrated diverse peoples and adapted to the challenges of a wild and changing frontier.

An absolutely excellent pasta-making class! I loved every part of the experience—from the clear, hands-on process to the delicious tiramisu at the end. The host was an outstanding teacher: patient, knowledgeable, and truly passionate about what they do. I learned so much and had a fantastic time. Highly recommended! Thank you Fiammy ❤️❤️❤️

We had a private, individual master class conducted by Mattia for my girlfriend and me. It was amazing! Our mentor Mattia was very communicative and pleasant, and he created an engaging and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the preparation of tiramisu and pizza. Thanks to Mattia, we discovered the traditions and culture behind making these dishes, which we will definitely be able to share with our friends and family in the future. It’s a unique opportunity to spend a wonderful time, cook incredibly delicious food, and of course enjoy tasting it. I highly recommend it — you won’t regret it, and you’ll be left with plenty of wonderful memories. We spent 5 days in Rome, and this experience is one of the brightest memories that will stay with us for many years.

Oh my goodness this food tour is SO worth your time. Our guide Michael made the whole group feel welcome and comfortable, and he had wonderful information about the food in different regions of Italy. The wine was flowing and the food was spectacular. Come hungry, I promise you’ll leave full! Everything was amazing and the shop owners were great. 10/10 recommend!

We had an amazing experience with The Roman Food Tour, and Tina was the perfect guide! She is incredibly knowledgeable, warm, and fun, making the whole tour feel like a journey with a friend. Tina shared not only delicious food stops but also great stories, history, and local tips that made the experience unforgettable. Thanks to her, we discovered places we never would have found on our own. Highly recommend both the tour and especially Tina she made our trip to Rome truly special!
