One of the main objectives of the Euroméditerranée project is to open the city of Marseille to the sea by transforming the port into walking areas, recreational zones, and cultural attractions accessible to all citizens. Along the coast, the development of new spaces and roads—made possible after burying the highway and creating the Boulevard du Littoral—has helped calm traffic and establish a high-quality public space between the city and the harbor. We will begin our tour at the Quai de l’Arenc to see the CMA CGM Tower by Zaha Hadid and the renovation of the building Le Silo by E. Castaldi and Roland Charter, then continue along Boulevard de Dunkerque, where you will find projects by Jean-Paul Viguier and the new FRAC designed by Kengo Kuma, leading us to Joliette Square.
We will then move on to the area where the Cité de la Méditerranée is still under development, an ambitious project that includes the transformation of the docks’ walkways, the Maritime Station by Lanoire and Courrian, the esplanade of La Major designed by Bruno Fortier and Jean-Michel Savignat, and the future Euromed complex by Massimiliano Fuksas. The tour will end at the Esplanade J4, home to the MuCEM (Museum of the Civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean) by Rudy Ricciotti and Roland Charter, along with the striking Villa Méditerranée building by Boeri Studio, forming one of the most iconic cultural hubs of modern Marseille.
