Boat School Launches One-Day Powerboat Conversion Course for Advancing Skippers

A structured upgrade program offered through The Boat School is providing qualified students with a streamlined pathway to improve their practical boating skills and progress toward higher certification levels. Designed for holders of the Spanish Boat Licence or RYA Powerboat Level 1, the course focuses on efficient, real-world skill development.

Running from approximately 09:00 to 16:00, the intensive training day takes place entirely on the water. Students work through essential powerboating techniques including close-quarters manoeuvring, anchoring, and general vessel control, with an emphasis on building confidence in varied on-water conditions.

The program is structured to bridge the gap between entry-level qualifications and more advanced competency. Alongside practical training, participants receive access to online theory modules covering navigation, safety procedures, and seamanship principles, reinforcing key knowledge areas outside the classroom.

For those seeking additional support, an optional two-hour face-to-face theory session is available for an extra fee. With small group instruction throughout, the course ensures personalised attention, helping participants strengthen both practical ability and theoretical understanding as they progress toward higher-level maritime qualifications.

Fantastic weekend doing the power boat course. Terrible weather but brilliant training from Liam and Andrew (and Abigail our Rib!). Highly recommend the course and the guys to anyone serious about power boating.

Thank you to Caoimhe and Declan for making this an interesting and truly fun weekend! It was great seeing all of us in action and getting to understand the workings of a power boat! You created a great memory and a new hobby to develop :)

We had a brilliant weekend at Dun Laoghaire Powerboat School and can’t recommend it enough. The course was really well run, with loads of time on the water and a perfect balance of learning and enjoyment. Declan, our instructor, was outstanding — patient, clear, encouraging and focused on safety, practical skills and helping us to be successful. We covered so much, from high-speed manoeuvring and coming alongside to man-over-board recovery, knots, navigation and tides. My teenage son and I both finished the weekend feeling confident, fully qualified, and delighted with our Powerboat Certificates. A fantastic experience for any beginner looking to get started.
