This was such a great experience! This was actually the second time my husband and I have taken a cooking class with Dat -- the first time was about 12 years ago when we lived in Nha Trang. When we came for a visit again this past July, we knew we wanted to go again. It's such a great cultural experience that takes you outside of the touristy area of Nha Trang. Dat teaches you a lot about the local history and meaning, takes you to a local neighborhood market, gives you a first-hand explanation and experience with local vendors, and then takes you to his beautiful outdoor cooking kitchen at his home estate. He's also very aware of any dietary restrictions or allergens -- I'm a vegetarian with a shellfish allergy, and he modified recipes for me so that I could safely eat the food we cooked. He's an exceptional chef, guide, and teacher, and you should absolutely take a class with him!!
Amazing experience, It's a must try for Nha Trang. We got taken on a beautiful tour of the real Vietnam and pick ingredients fresh from the market. Then made the most delicious 3 course meal with Dat.
We spent an amazing morning with Dat touring the local markets, coconut factory, rice noodle factory and visited a local family to experience normal rural Vietnamese life. The tour was incredible, very very interesting and at times hands-on when making the noodles! After this we went to Dat’s beautiful garden kitchen and made Pho, Bahn Xao and summer rolls in an amazing setting. We can’t recommend this experience enough!!
Our cooking class with Dat in Nha Trang was an unforgettable experience, and we highly recommend it! We went with some friends, and it ended up being one of the best parts of our trip. The day started with a refreshing treat—fresh coconut, which was a great way to kick off the adventure. We then headed to a local market where Dat introduced us to the fresh, vibrant ingredients used in traditional Vietnamese cooking. He shared so much knowledge about the herbs, spices, and produce, making the whole experience both informative and fun. Next, we visited a local Vietnamese family in the village, which was an incredible experience. It was eye-opening to see how they live and gain a deeper understanding of rural life in Vietnam. This was a perfect way to connect with the culture before we headed to Dat’s home. Dat’s house is a beautiful, peaceful oasis, a perfect setting for a cooking class. We got to meet his adorable little puppy, Spurs, who added an extra touch of charm to the day! In the class, we cooked a traditional Vietnamese curry with a vegetarian option that included eggplant and mixed veggies, as well as a fresh and delicious green papaya salad. Dat was an excellent teacher, guiding us through every step with patience and clarity. After cooking, we sat down together to enjoy the wonderful dishes we had prepared. We also visited a local noodle factory where we had the chance to see the traditional noodle-making process and even try the fresh noodles—such a unique and delicious experience! Overall, this cooking class was a true gem. The combination of exploring Vietnamese culture, cooking delicious food, and spending time in such a lovely environment made for a truly memorable experience. We’ll cherish these moments and would love to return if we’re ever in Nha Trang again!
We had a wonderful experience at - Viet Garden Cooking class. The chef was kind enough to alter our dishes as I am gluten intolerant, we been taken to local market, coconut and noodle factory and was shown the local ways of living. If you are in Nha Trang Vietnam and interested in learning to cook authentic Vietnamese food I would strongly recommend to take this class.
