Prenzlauer Berg is one of Berlin’s most family-friendly districts, known for its abundance of children and playful atmosphere. That’s why we chose this neighborhood for a special family tour, designed to engage both adults and children with fun, interactive city exploration. The tour begins at the Kulturbrauerei, where visitors can marvel at the question of how the heavy brewery horses once reached their stables on the first floor.
The journey continues at the Märchenbrunnen, or Fairy Tale Fountain, where stone sculptures bring seven classic Brothers Grimm tales to life—perfect for testing your knowledge of the Frog Prince and other beloved stories. Next, we visit the Velodrome, originally built for Berlin’s 2000 Olympic bid and now home to the thrilling Berlin Six-Day Race, where you can get a sense of speed and motion while cycling on the circular track. The tour finishes on Greifswalder Straße, where the GDR’s final architectural statements stand: after the old gasometers were demolished, a planetarium and high-rise buildings with uniquely shaped balconies were erected, adding a modern twist to this historically rich neighborhood.

My son (9) and I were fortunate enough to be able to take a city tour with Sabine at the beginning of October 2021, despite a very short notice.
