A beautiful experience- our guide Selino explained the history of the land & cork harvest very well. The jeep tour was a great way to see more of the property. We would absolutely do the tour again, especially in another season to see the difference in landscape. There are options for wine tasting and a selection of well priced, genuine souveneirs. This is a must do activity!

If you’re looking for something uniquely Portuguese, the Cork Trekking experience is a must. The Alentejo region produces most of the world’s cork, and this tour takes you right into the heart of it. Our guide, Celino, was fantastic: warm, funny, and full of energy. His laughter was contagious, and he kept us smiling the entire afternoon. After a bumpy but fun ride in a Land Rover through the hills, we arrived at a sprawling 800-acre cork estate surrounded by oak trees and dry golden grass. Celino pointed out everything from abandoned vineyards locked in legal disputes to groves of Holm oaks, whose acorns are used to fatten the region’s famous black pigs. When we reached the cork forest, it was stunning: rows of oaks stretching to the horizon. Celino parked under a giant tree he called Michael, explaining that cork oaks are first harvested at 45 years old, and then every 10 years after that. The bark is peeled by hand, leaving the trees unharmed as they quickly begin to regenerate. We learned that thinner bark is used for sparkling wine stoppers, while scraps are turned into things like shoes and purses. Celino’s passion for his work made the whole experience memorable. The combination of humor, history, and incredible scenery made this one of the highlights of our trip through Alentejo. If you’re near Évora, this is an unforgettable experience that gives real insight into one of Portugal’s most sustainable traditions. Highly recommend!

We had the best time visiting the winery and meeting the owners. We enjoyed the Jeep tour also! So fun to see the beautiful property and learn about the cork trees.
