We did this food and wine tasting tour yesterday and it was a pleasure for the senses. A well rounded cultural walking tour that brought us closer to Funchal. Isabel was an exceptional tour guide that patiently answered all our questions. We will treasure this tour forever. 10/10. If you are in Madeira / Funchal don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy local culture and gastronomy with them.

Our experience was tempered by the fact we didn’t have a great guide. And we were confused that the tour started with all the sweet food and ended with dinner. Seem to be the wrong way around, but I imagine that’s because certain places aren’t open later so the guide needed to do the food experiences based on when businesses were open. Anyway, we certainly tried lots of nice things. No complaints about that! And there’s no shortage of delicious food on Madeira. The last stop was a real disappointment: the dinner wasn’t great and we weren’t able to go to the poncho place because it was raining so badly. The restaurant tried to make up for it by making poncho of themselves, which was very generous. And then on for some reason, we spent 20 minutes waiting around for the restaurant to make nonalcoholic beverages, which seemed to be a real production. Definitely ended the evening on the sour note. And on top of that our guide cut and ran without saying goodbye in the normal fashion. We were all sitting there wondering if the tour was over. Lastly, I’ll say that our group was a mix of English speaking in German speaking visitors, which made it really hard on the guide and in my opinion, she spent more time explaining things to the German visitors and the English visitors. We understand both languages so for us it wasn’t a problem, but I don’t feel like the English folks got their money’s worth.

Our guide was Elda (sorry if I have spelt it wrong), and the tour was great. There was several stops, and gave a full flavour of Maderian food. There was 10 on the tour so a nice group, and you were given the opportunity to ask questions throughout the day. We went to a winery, restaurant, food market, chocolate shop, biscuit shop and a bar and sampled lots of different things (try the Nikita at the bar 😋). Elda was very informative and friendly and a great guide, who is obviously very proud of Maderia and all it has to offer. We found her very helpful.

I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Great variety of tasting: Madeira wine, fish, cookies, chocolates, fruit, pastel de nata. The pace was good. Group size was small (10) and Ana our guide was personable and knowledgeable.

Great Food! Great History! A must do in Funchal! The tour is a wonderful balance of history and food! Our tour guide, Jaqueline, described a delicious blend of food and drinks while sharing with us stories of Funchal past. She was quite knowledgeable about both topics and was a charming host for our day. The four hours of the tour flew by and we would have loved to be able to spend more time with the tour.
